How this tool works
The Discount Calculator uses standard arithmetic formulas to calculate discounts, final prices, savings, taxes, coupons, quantity deals, unit prices, profit, and margins.
For a basic percentage discount:
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
-----------
To calculate the discount percentage from an original and sale price:
Discount Percentage =
((Original Price − Sale Price) ÷ Original Price) × 100
--------------------
For a reverse-discount calculation:
Original Price =
Sale Price ÷ (1 − Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
--------------------
Stacked discounts are applied sequentially:
Final Price =
Original Price
× (1 − First Discount ÷ 100)
× (1 − Second Discount ÷ 100)
---------------------
For example, 20% off followed by another 10% off produces an effective discount of 28%, not 30%.
When a discount is applied before tax:
Discounted Price =
Original Price × (1 − Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
Tax Amount =
Discounted Price × (Tax Rate ÷ 100)
Final Payable Amount =
Discounted Price + Tax Amount
---------------------
For capped discounts:
Applied Discount =
Minimum of Calculated Discount and Maximum Discount Cap
------------------------
For business calculations:
Profit = Selling Price − Cost Price
Profit Margin = (Profit ÷ Selling Price) × 100
Markup = (Profit ÷ Cost Price) × 100
-----------------------
For “Buy X, Get Y Free” offers, the calculator determines complete offer groups, paid items, free items, total payable price, effective unit price, and effective discount.
All calculations are performed locally in the user’s browser. Results are formatted to remove unnecessary trailing zeros while retaining useful decimal precision.
Important assumptions
All monetary values entered within one calculation use the same currency.
The currency selector changes only the displayed symbol and does not perform currency conversion.
Discount percentages are calculated using the entered percentage divided by 100.
Stacked discounts are applied sequentially in the order displayed.
Fixed coupons and discounts cannot reduce the final payable price below zero.
A capped offer applies the lower of the calculated percentage discount and the maximum discount cap.
Minimum-purchase coupons are applied only when the entered order value meets or exceeds the specified threshold.
Tax is calculated according to the order of operations shown in the selected mode.
Quantity calculations assume that all items have the same unit price.
“Buy X, Get Y Free” calculations assume equal-priced eligible items.
Complete offer groups are calculated first, followed by any remaining items.
Bundle comparisons assume that both options contain equivalent items or quantities.
Profit calculations use only the entered cost, list price, and discount.
Shipping, marketplace fees, payment-processing fees, advertising expenses, returns, and other operating costs are excluded unless already included in the entered values.
Prices, discount rates, tax rates, coupon values, and quantities must not be negative.
Reverse-discount calculations require a discount below 100%.
Results may be rounded for display purposes.
Limitations
The Discount Calculator provides general mathematical estimates and does not constitute financial, tax, legal, accounting, pricing, or commercial advice.
Actual checkout totals may differ because of:
Retailer-specific rounding;
Product exclusions;
Coupon restrictions;
Minimum-purchase conditions;
Maximum-discount limits;
Shipping or handling charges;
Regional tax rules;
Marketplace fees;
Payment-method offers;
Bank discounts;
Loyalty points;
Cashback credited later;
Currency conversion;
Subscription conditions; or
A different order of operations.
The calculator does not verify whether an advertised offer is valid, available, legally compliant, or applicable to a particular product, user, location, or payment method.
“Buy X, Get Y Free” offers may apply the free benefit to the lowest-priced eligible item. The calculator assumes equal unit prices unless different pricing is explicitly supported.
Business profit calculations do not automatically include taxes, shipping, commissions, returns, labour, advertising, overhead, or other expenses. A positive result does not guarantee that the transaction will be profitable.
The calculator does not retrieve live prices, tax rates, exchange rates, retailer conditions, or coupon information. Users should verify the final checkout breakdown and applicable offer terms before purchasing or making a business decision.
Frequently asked questions
1. How is a basic discount calculated?+
The discount amount is calculated by multiplying the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100. The discount amount is then subtracted from the original price.nnFor example, a 25% discount on ₹2,000 gives:nnDiscount Amount = ₹2,000 × 25% = ₹500nnFinal Price = ₹2,000 − ₹500 = ₹1,500
2. Are stacked discounts added together?+
No. Stacked discounts are applied one after another.nnA 20% discount followed by an additional 10% discount is calculated as:nnOriginal Price × 0.80 × 0.90
3. What does “20% off up to ₹500” mean?+
The percentage discount is calculated first, but the actual saving cannot exceed ₹500.nnFor a ₹4,000 order:nn20% of ₹4,000 = ₹800
4. Does the order of a percentage discount and fixed coupon matter?+
Yes. Applying the percentage discount before the fixed coupon can produce a different result from applying the coupon first.nnThe Discount + Coupon mode allows the user to choose the required application order and displays the resulting final price and effective discount.
5. Is the pricing information sent to PMNM?+
No pricing or offer information needs to be sent to PMNM to perform the calculation. The Discount Calculator is designed to calculate results locally within the user’s browser.nnRecent calculation history is stored only in the current browser using local storage and can be cleared from the calculator.
