What the Add Text to PDF does
Text is drawn onto the page as new content, positioned by percentage across and up from the bottom-left corner. It becomes part of the page like any other text: selectable, searchable and printable.
Positioning is numeric rather than by clicking, so expect a first attempt and an adjustment. Percentages make it predictable — 50% across and 50% up is the centre of any page, whatever its size.
How to use this tool
- Select your PDF and look at the thumbnail to judge where the text should go.
- Type the text. Use separate lines for separate lines on the page.
- Set the page number, then the position: across from the left, up from the bottom.
- Choose a size and colour — blue at 12–14 pt reads convincingly as handwriting-substitute ink on a form.
- Press Add text, check the result, and adjust the percentages if it landed in the wrong place.
How position is calculated
Percentages are of the page dimensions, measured from the
bottom-left corner — the PDF coordinate origin:
x = page width × (across % ÷ 100)
y = page height × (up % ÷ 100)
Multiple lines are drawn downward from that point:
line n y = y − (n × font size × 1.35)
So 10% across and 90% up is near the top-left,
and 50% / 50% is the centre of any page size.

Add one field at a time, checking each result. Once the vertical positions of the form lines are known, the remaining fields go quickly.
What your result means
The text is real PDF text, not an image — it stays sharp at any zoom and can be selected and searched.
Expect one adjustment. Numeric positioning rarely lands correctly first time; the second attempt usually does.
Check whether the form is actually fillable first using the form field checker — if it has real fields, filling them in a PDF reader is far easier.
Important considerations
- Check for interactive fields first. A genuinely fillable form is much quicker to complete in any PDF reader.
- Add one piece of text per pass. There is no way to place several separate items in one operation.
- Blue text at 12–14 pt reads naturally on a form where black might look pre-printed.
- Only the standard PDF fonts are available, so Hindi and other Indic scripts cannot be added.
- For a signature, use the sign tool, which places an image rather than typed text.
Limitations of this tool
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened without the password.
- Processing happens in your device's memory, so very large documents can be slow.
- Existing text cannot be edited or removed — these tools add content on top of the page.
- Text is positioned numerically rather than by clicking on the page.
- Only one text block can be added per pass; run the tool repeatedly for multiple fields.
- The standard PDF fonts cover Latin characters only — no Devanagari or other Indic scripts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the text that is already in the PDF?
No. This adds new text on top. Existing text in a PDF is positioned glyph by glyph with no paragraph structure, so editing it in place is not possible in a browser — change the source document and export again.
How do I know where to position the text?
Use the thumbnail to estimate, then place it and check the result. Percentages make it predictable: 50% across and 50% up is always the page centre. One correction is usually enough.
Can I add text in Hindi?
No. The standard PDF fonts cover Latin characters only, and embedding an Indic font is not supported here.
Can I add several fields at once?
Not in one pass. Run the tool on the output repeatedly, once per field. After the first two you will know the vertical positions of the form lines.
