What the Add Header & Footer to PDF does
Header and footer text are drawn at a fixed distance from the top and bottom edges, aligned left, centre or right. Both are optional, so you can add just a footer if that is all you need.
The text is identical on every page. If you need numbering that increments, use the page numbers tool — the two can be combined by running one after the other.
How to use this tool
- Select your PDF and wait for the thumbnails.
- Type the header text, the footer text, or both.
- Choose alignment and font size — 10 pt centred is the usual convention.
- Tick specific pages if only part of the document needs it.
- Press Add header and footer and download.
Where the text sits
Header y = page height − margin
Footer y = margin
Horizontal position by alignment:
left → x = margin
centre → x = (page width − text width) ÷ 2
right → x = page width − margin − text width
The same text is drawn on every selected page.
72 points = 1 inch, so a 28 pt margin is about 10 mm.

Run the page numbering tool afterwards with a bottom-right position, so the numbers sit beside the centred footer rather than on top of it.
What your result means
The text is drawn on top of existing content. Check your pages first — documents that already have footers need a different margin or alignment.
Combine with page numbering by running both tools in sequence, using different positions so they do not overlap.
Margins matter for printing. Below about 20 points, text may fall inside the printer's unprintable edge.
Important considerations
- Add headers and footers after merging, so every page in the final document carries them.
- Keep the text short. A long header at 10 pt can run into the page margins on a narrow page.
- Use different alignment for the footer and page numbers so they do not collide.
- Only the standard PDF fonts are available, so Devanagari and other Indic scripts are not supported.
- This invalidates any digital signature on the document.
Limitations of this tool
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened without the password.
- Processing happens in your device's memory, so very large documents can be slow.
- Existing text cannot be edited or removed — these tools add content on top of the page.
- The same static text appears on every page — no automatic fields such as dates or filenames.
- Only the three standard PDF font families are available.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put the page number in the footer?
Not with this tool, which places static text. Run the page numbers tool afterwards and choose a different position so the two do not overlap.
Will the header overlap my content?
It can, since it is drawn on top. Check the top and bottom of your pages first and increase the margin if there is existing content there.
Can I use a different header on different pages?
Not in one pass. Run the tool once per group of pages, ticking only those pages each time.
Can I use Hindi text?
No. The standard PDF fonts cover Latin characters only, and embedding an Indic font is not supported here.
