What the Government Exam Age Eligibility Calculator does
Every notification specifies a date on which age is reckoned. For SSC examinations it has variously been 1 January, 1 July and 1 August in different years. Your age on that date decides eligibility, regardless of your age when you sit the exam.
Upper age limits are also post-specific. A single SSC CGL notification commonly contains posts with limits of 27, 30 and 32 years — which is why this tool asks you to enter the limits rather than assuming them, and why the presets are explicitly starting points to be replaced.
How to use this tool
- Enter your date of birth exactly as recorded on your Class 10 certificate. That is the document recruiters verify against.
- Select the exam to pre-fill typical values, then open the official notification PDF.
- Copy the cut-off date from the age criteria section of the notification.
- Copy the minimum and maximum age for the specific post you are applying to, not the widest band in the notification.
- Select your category for relaxation, and confirm the notification actually grants it for that post.

Age on cut-off date = exact years, months and days from

Age is calculated calendar-correctly, accounting for leap years and month lengths, rather than by dividing days by 365.

The same candidate applying for a post with a 27-year limit would be eligible in this cycle but not in the next — which is exactly why post-wise limits matter more than the exam name.
What your result means
"Eligible" here means eligible on age alone. Educational qualification, nationality, physical standards, attempt limits and domicile requirements are separate criteria this tool does not check.
"Eligible until" is the date you cross the upper limit. Count how many notification cycles fall before it — that is how many genuine attempts remain.
Relaxation is never automatic. It requires a valid certificate in the prescribed central or state format at the time of application, and an invalid certificate can lead to rejection at the document verification stage.
Important considerations
- The date of birth on your Class 10 certificate governs. A different date on an Aadhaar or PAN record will not be accepted, and correction requests take months.
- Different posts in the same notification usually have different age bands. Read the post-wise table, not the summary.
- UPSC and some other examinations additionally limit the number of attempts, which age alone does not capture.
- EWS candidates do not receive age relaxation in most central government recruitments, despite receiving reservation.
- Ex-serviceman relaxation is generally calculated as length of service rendered plus three years, not a flat three years. Read the exact wording.
- One-time additional relaxations have been announced in some recruitment cycles. They apply only where the notification says so.
Limitations of this tool
- It checks age only. It cannot verify educational qualification, attempt limits, domicile, physical standards or any other eligibility criterion.
- Presets reflect commonly seen bands and carry no guarantee of currency. Notifications change limits, cut-off dates and relaxations between cycles.
- Relaxation cumulation rules differ between notifications — for example whether PwBD and category relaxations can be combined — and this tool applies a single figure.

Which date is used to calculate age for government exams?

How much age relaxation do OBC and SC/ST candidates get?
In most central government recruitments, three years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and five years for SC/ST, with ten years for PwBD candidates. The notification is authoritative, and a valid certificate in the prescribed format is required.
Does my Aadhaar date of birth matter?
No. Recruiting bodies use the date of birth recorded on your Class 10 or matriculation certificate. A mismatch elsewhere does not change eligibility, though it can cause problems at document verification.
What if I turn overage between applying and the exam?
It does not matter. Eligibility is fixed by your age on the notification's cut-off date, so turning older before the exam or the interview does not affect it.
Do all posts in one notification have the same age limit?
No, and assuming so is a common mistake. SSC CGL in particular sets different bands — commonly 18–27, 18–30, 20–30 and 18–32 — for different posts and departments within a single notification.
