What the Passport Photo to PDF does
The standard Indian passport photograph is 35 × 45 mm. What matters is the size on paper, not the pixel dimensions of the file, so this tool builds the PDF page in millimetres and places each copy at exactly the size you specify.
Every dimension is configurable because requirements differ: 25 × 35 mm for some forms, 50 × 50 mm for certain visas, and various sizes for state examinations.
How to use this tool

How the sheet is laid out
Working in millimetres, converted to points at 72 ÷ 25.4:
columns = ⌊(page width − 2×margin + gap) ÷ (photo width + gap)⌋
rows = ⌊(page height − 2×margin + gap) ÷ (photo height + gap)⌋
The grid is centred, and more pages are added if the number
of copies exceeds what fits on one.
On A4 with 35 × 45 mm photos, 3 mm gaps and 10 mm margins:

A4 fits up to 25 photographs. Printing a full sheet costs the same as printing eight, so it is worth having spares.
What your result means
Print at 100% scale with no "fit to page" or "shrink to fit" setting, or the physical size will be wrong. Check the printed result with a ruler.
Cut along the middle of the guide lines so no grey remains on the photograph.
Verify with a ruler before submitting. A printed photo should measure exactly 35 × 45 mm.
Important considerations
- Crop the photograph correctly first. This tool tiles what you give it — it does not centre a face or fix framing.
- Most Indian applications require a plain white or light background, the face filling roughly 70–80% of the frame, and no spectacles glare.
- Print on photo paper of at least 200 gsm. Plain paper is rejected by many offices.
- Some applications require the photograph to have been taken recently, occasionally with the date printed on it.
- A local print shop charges ₹20–₹30 for an A4 photo print, which is far cheaper than a studio sheet.
- Photograph specifications are set by each notification or portal and change between cycles. The dimensions here are configurable defaults, not a guarantee that any particular department will accept the output. Always confirm the required size against the current official instructions.
Limitations of this tool
- Images are capped at 2400–3000 pixels on the longest side to keep memory use manageable on phones.
- Photographs are embedded as JPEG, so PNG transparency is flattened onto white.
- Perspective distortion cannot be corrected — photograph the page square-on for the best result.
- The tool does not crop, centre a face or check background colour — only sizing and layout.
- Colour management is not applied, so printed colours may differ slightly from the screen.
