What the Edit PDF Metadata does
The four editable fields are the ones the PDF format defines and that libraries can write reliably: title, author, subject and keywords. Creator and producer are written by the generating software and are deliberately not editable here, since claiming a document was produced by software that did not produce it is misleading.
Blank fields are left alone, so you can set only the title without wiping everything else.

Important considerations
- Set the title before submitting anything formal. It costs nothing and is visible to every reader.
- Metadata is freely editable by anyone, so it carries no evidential weight — do not rely on it to establish authorship.
- Editing metadata invalidates any digital signature on the document.
- To clear fields rather than set them, use the metadata remover; blank entries here are ignored rather than treated as deletions.
- Keywords should be comma-separated. Long sentences are not useful to the systems that read them.
Limitations of this tool
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened without the password and will report an error rather than failing quietly.
- Everything runs in your device's memory, so very large documents can be slow or exhaust available memory.
- Damaged or partially downloaded files cannot be parsed.
- Creator and producer cannot be edited here, by design.
- XMP metadata streams, where a producer wrote one, are not updated and may still show the old values in some tools.
Frequently asked questions
Why should I set the PDF title?
Because it appears in the reader window and browser tab instead of the filename. A document showing "Untitled" or a working filename looks careless in a formal submission.
Can I change the creation date?
No, and deliberately so. Backdating a document is misrepresentation, and this tool will not help with it. The modification date updates automatically as it does with any edit.
What happens to fields I leave blank?
They keep their current values. Only fields you fill in are changed.
Does editing metadata change the document content?
No. Pages are untouched; only the information about the document changes.
