What the PDF Page Counter does
A PDF records its page count in its internal structure, so it can be read without rendering anything. The same parse also exposes the first page's dimensions, the PDF version and whatever document information the producing software attached.
Because nothing is rendered, this works on very large documents in a fraction of a second — useful when you just need a number before deciding what to do next.

What is read
The PDF catalogue is parsed and these values reported:
Pages — from the page tree, no rendering needed
File size — the actual bytes on your device
Page size — the first page's MediaBox, in mm and points
PDF version — the format version in the header
Title, Author, Producer — the document information dictionary

Knowing the count and page size before you reach the shop avoids paying for a job that turns out to be Legal-sized or twice as long as expected.
What your result means
Page count is what most limits are expressed in. Check it against the portal's stated maximum before uploading.
First page size only describes page one. If a document was assembled from several sources, later pages may differ — the page size checker inspects them all.
Producer reveals the software that created the file, which is often more identifying than people expect.
Important considerations
- Page count is the number of PDF pages, which may not match numbers printed on the pages — front matter is commonly numbered separately.
- File size limits on portals are usually stated in MB and measured in binary megabytes. A file shown as 5.0 MB may be just over a 5 MB limit.
- A PDF version above 1.7 can occasionally cause problems with very old readers used by some government systems.
- If the tool reports the file is encrypted, remove the password in a PDF reader before using any other tool here.
- Reading a document does not modify it in any way — your file is untouched.
Limitations of this tool
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened without the password and will report an error rather than failing quietly.
